Member Spotlight #7: Michelle Tetzlaff

We have an excellent base of dedicated members who have really cool jobs! To help promote our membership base and give you a little insight into some of the cool people we work with, we've developed this quick-fire question series. Every month we will introduce you to members from the different industries within the recreation sector. This month we talked with 2019 Lifeguard of the Year, Michelle Tetzlaff...

Your role... Lifeguard, swim instructor, and customer service advisor for Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) at Wanaka Recreation Centre.

What you love most about the sector... Aquatics has always been a big part of my life and I enjoy supporting the community in their recreational activities.

Why you joined Recreation Aotearoa... In 2017 I attended JAWS as a representative of QLDC. The seminar provided valuable information and encouraged my passion for working in aquatics.

Favourite part about being a member... I enjoy attending the conferences and seeing the latest news via Facebook and member communications. Being the 2019 Lifeguard of the Year was a bonus.

One thing you've learned in the last month... How to eat! I've learned the importance of being kind and patient with anything life throws at you. It's also been nice to see Recreation Aotearoa keeping members up to date with the latest advice concerning COVID-19.

Your hopes for our industry... I hope to soon get back to the fun of normal aquatic operations. We need to take out time and be cautious, but it will be nice when we can come together as a community again.
