New Zealand Parks Agencies Manager’s Group Meeting July 2017

A couple months have passed since NZPAMG meeting in Sydney, but I’m still buzzing with excitement from the great discussions that we had.

As a young professional who is new to the industry this was an amazing opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of the challenges we face.

Among all the issues, questions, ideas and opportunities that were addressed there was one common theme among them all: the recognition of rapid changes in the industry and community, and our need get ahead of the curve.

One of the key ideas that I took away from these discussions is that there is a need for increased communication and collaboration between parks agencies. To improve our organisations’ planning, delivery of services and visitor experience we need to share our knowledge, information and data.

The industry faces a number of pretty big challenges in the not-so-distant future but I think everyone attending came away from the NZPAMG meeting with a fresh perspective of the exciting opportunities ahead and a desire to see stronger relationships between our organisations.

We were also lucky enough to explore some gorgeous places including Cockatoo Island, the Bradley’s Head to Chowder Bay walk and a tour of the Blue Mountains parks network.

A massive thanks to our amazing hosts from Parks Australia and the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust and sponsors Treescape and TRC Tourism. We had an absolutely fantastic time!

Also, a big thank you to NZRA and Generate for their financial and personal support. I loved getting to meet everyone and it was an awesome learning experience.
