Riparian Operations Manager - Porirua City Council

Porirua City is on the move. With growth and development trending right up, there has never been a better time to be part of the team creating change. With investment in our catchment restoration ranked as a top strategic priority for our City, our Riparian Programme is one of our most exciting and vital projects.

Our beautiful harbour and its surrounding streams are something people in Porirua feel very strongly about. Our community want us to lead the recovery of our streams so if you are looking for a new exciting challenge, we would love to have you. Our new riparian programme is on the way.

Bring your unique skills:

To be successful in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification, ideally a solid grounding in soil conservation or riparian management, but most importantly; practical experience in leading a community programme. You will need to have excellent relationship building skills and proven experience in working with stakeholders. You will have a broad understanding of land/water interactions and connectedness of environments, particularly in water quality and biodiversity.

You will have demonstrated experience in drawing together teams within an organisation and working with external agencies. We have a large team around us on this programme, from Council staff to contractors to active volunteer groups and supportive NGO's, so there is a big team waiting for you to lead to make it happen.

We are seeking an organised, driven and engaging operations manager. In this role you will manage operational development of the riparian management project, creating annual work programmes for stream reach planting, including the coordination of site preparation, planting and site maintenance.

It's a role for an energetic person who's excellent at getting other people on board with your ideas and sharing your enthusiasm for looking after streams. You'll be results driven, a straight thinker and a resilient type who can foresee potential issues and challenges.

You will need an understanding of catchment planning and we have just developed a world leading GIS tool to help us along the way, so previous GIS experience or amazing tech skills is a must. You will have an eye for detail and know how to schedule what's needed to get plants in the ground.

We have a 16-year catchment programme to deliver and are looking for someone to kick start us with a huge push for the first five years. This is the kind of opportunity that might only come along once in a career. It could be a complete game-changer for you; you'll be directly shaping the direction of Porirua's natural environment for generations to come, and with your energy and drive you could do great things.

Experience the good life at PCC:

This could be the refresh and restart you've been looking for - life's good here in Porirua. More affordable and accessible than larger cities, it's the perfect balance of bustle and quiet with the big advantage of being right beside the sea and beaches!
