Duty Manager | Community Pools - Wellington City Council

Help people stay active and take your leadership skills to the next level! We have an exciting opportunity available at our Wellington City Council's Community Pools as a Duty Manager. Our pools provide outstanding sport and recreation programmes and facilities that all contribute to the health and wellbeing of Wellington's communities.

The teams working at the pools provide a high standard of service in every customer interaction, while ensuring operational excellence. We're located at Oriental Bay (Freyberg Pool), Johnsonville (Keith Spry Pool), Tawa and Karori. Our Duty Managers work closely with their Operations Manager - and the daily responsibilities include:

  • Building and enhancing the capability of the team
  • Providing and maintaining a high standard of pool lifeguarding
  • Displaying visible leadership in health and safety systems and practices and ensuring all staff co-operate fully in meeting the health and safety requirements of the facility
  • Ensuring procedures and schedules for facility maintenance and presentation are carried out
  • Providing effective customer service
  • Carrying out administrative tasks such as processing timesheets

Ideally you will hold the relevant lifeguarding qualifications (PLPC and first aid) and have experience in aquatics, facility operations and customer service or in similar roles. You will have excellent interpersonal skills that will enable you to develop strong working relationships with people. You will communicate effectively and lead the team to deliver a high standard of lifeguarding within the facility.

Previous supervisory experience would be advantageous, but we're keen to hear from you if you have a passion for leadership and want to take your next career step. We will offer you ongoing training and personal development to help you reach your personal and career goals.

Starting salary from $61,393. We offer a competitive salary and provide other benefits that come with the role such as subsidised health insurance and Council school holidays programme, just to name a few.
