Due to retirement, we have an exciting opportunity for an individual looking to expand their experience in the Whakatū Nelson Parks space:
- Contracts Supervisor – Parks
This position focuses on working in partnership with contract suppliers to ensure they are delivering on agreed standards, enabling excellent parks and facilities across Nelson City. This includes coordinating service requests, ensuing correct pricing and charging, and managing other aspects of overseeing contract partners.
You will participate as a part of a waka team to manage Parks and Facility contracts ensuring Nelson City Council and the community receive a high level of service.

As an experienced contract manager, you will have an operational background in amenity horticulture. Your passion for parks will complement your technical experience in managing contract suppliers, pricing and charging correctly, liaising with residents and other stakeholders and managing other aspects of Nelson City Council parks and reserves.
A positive flexible approach, demonstrated contract management experience, strong relationship management skills and excellent administrative skills are essential.
From contributing to contact documentation to liaising with community groups, we can assure you that no two days will be the same. You’ll work closely with colleagues on the development of asset management plans and infrastructure projects. You will also enjoy working with our community to address urgent issues that arise.
Collaboration is critical in this role, you will be able to build strong relationships with your contractors, use your horticulture OR facilities/turf management background to advocate for best practice throughout our parks network and will work with stakeholders to ensure our parks and green spaces are amazing places to be.
Additionally, you will have the following experience:
- Solid contract procurement and management skills
- Sound understanding and hands on practical experience of parks projects
- Experience in project management (managing quality outcomes, budgets and risk)
- Experience of understanding and managing budgets
- Excellent relationship building skills with internal and external customers
- Great written and oral communication skills
