About us

Recreation Aotearoa Te Whai Oranga is the voice of recreation in New Zealand, representing all professionals in the industry. We empower our members to deliver quality recreation experiences, places, and facilities, that fuel a more active, healthy, and connected Aotearoa.

Guided by our bicultural strategy Te Whai Oranga, we are on a journey to be a Te Tiriti-centric organisation that upholds the mana of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and weaves together world views to enhance the well-being of all New Zealanders through recreation.

About the role

As a fixed-term part-time Events Coordinator, you will work closely with the Events Manager in an important function for the organisation. The position is primarily based in the Wellington CBD; however, the role offers flexible working arrangements. The role is also flexible in the number of hours worked per day.

You will provide support to the organisation by coordinating end-to-end event management. Aspects include but are not limited to event administration, venue, catering, supplier liaison, speaker liaison, trade coordination, MC script writing and other event logistics to ensure a successful event.

Some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Be the primary contact for all registration and trade queries.

  • Providing support to the Event Manager.

  • Liaise with event suppliers.

  • Ensure the financial success of each event is maintained by adhering to each event budget and each line item within the budget.

  • Check that all event financial obligations are met.

What we're looking for

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive internal and external relationships.

  • Experience with coordinating conferences or other events.

  • The ability to multitask and prioritise effectively, with an eye for detail.

  • Experience working for a small organisation that places integrity at the core of what they do.

This is your chance to be part of the ‘go-to’ organisation for professionals involved in parks, play, community recreation, aquatics, and outdoor recreation throughout New Zealand, and one leading the way in bi-culturalism.

This is a great role in an organisation that offers genuine flexibility, work-life balance, and a positive workplace culture. You will be based in our central Wellington office with flexible working arrangements. Monday and Thursday are anchor days when all Wellington-based staff are in the office. The remainder of the week can be a mixture of working from home or in the office.

We’ll be reviewing applications as they come in, so if this sounds like you, apply today! If you’d like to find out more about the role, please contact Daniel Evans, at daniel@nzrecreation.org.nz or by phone on 027 594 4225.

This opportunity will close on Wednesday, 18 March 2026.
