Aquatic Innovation Award - Operations

Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa
Staff Wellness Programme 

Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa recognised the heightened anxiety and challenges faced by their staff over the past five years. To address this, their new strategic plan focuses on fostering a culture of care, respect, and value for team members. They have introduced several measures, including an on-site pastor, weekly counselling, enhanced training and development, and a comprehensive staff well-being programme, alongside increasing social engagement among staff.

No Limits Para-try-athlon
 

The No Limits ParaTry-Athlon is a multi-sport event designed for tamariki who need specific accommodations to participate in one or all three legs. Its aims are:

  • To promote multi-sport within the Primary/Intermediate School sector by creating a fun, challenging, and achievable environment.
  • To collaborate with whanau and tamariki to remove any barriers that may hinder their ability to compete in multi-sport events.

Scott, affectionately known as Poppa Manu or Grandpa, demonstrates a deep passion for the pool and its swimmers, especially rangatahi. His commitment to optimal pool operations shines through in every detail of his work. He credits the season’s success to his team’s enthusiasm and positive energy, which created a welcoming environment throughout the summer. Building meaningful connections with Nelson’s young people is central to Scott’s approach, ensuring every child, regardless of their background or financial situation, has a positive experience.
