As the largest facility of its kind in the country, Parakiore will offer world-class aquatic and indoor recreation, sport and leisure facilities to the people of Ōtautahi and attract visitors from across Australasia.

Picture this: indoor courts and Olympic-sized lane pool alive with recreation & sport programmes and leisure activities, heart-pounding hydroslides and dive boards, aquatic sensory experiences, plus an incredible water adventure playground and splash deck for our tamariki, all serving the needs of our diverse community.

This amazing facility will open in 2025 and complement the Council network of facilities across Ōtautahi including the Recreation and Sport Centres: Graham Condon, Jellie Park, Matatiki, Pioneer, Taiora QEII, Te Pou Toetoe, and Cowles Stadium.

We are now looking for an experienced and dedicated Manager Recreation Programmes.

About the role

The Manager Recreation Programmes will:

  • Maximise the participation in recreation and sport centres and indoor stadia by leading the delivery of a suite of high quality sport and recreation opportunities, activities and programmes targeted to meet the needs of our community. This includes fundamental movement programmes, recreation sensory experiences for people with complex needs, aquatic activities, pay for play, and other initiatives in response to need and collaborative opportunities.
  • You will also lead collaboration, planning and delivery to maximise participation by residents and visitors in recreational aquatic activities.
  • During the first twelve months of employment the role will also participate in the final recreation programme planning in preparation for the opening of Parakiore.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • At least seven years' leadership experience in recreation, sports or events related industry. 
  • Strong mana whenua, partner and stakeholder management and relationship building skills. 
  • Project management experience coordinating several projects simultaneously. 
  • The ability to promote our recreation programmes opportunities and attract a diverse range of users.
