Lewis Cameron – Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lewis Gordon Cameron at 88 years of age, surrounded by his family in Feilding.

Lewis leaves his wife of 64 years Catherine, son David and daughters Nicola, Diana, Bridget, and Megan along with their respective spouses. In addition to ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Lewis effectively started the commercial water treatment industry in New Zealand by manufacturing the first filters for public swimming pools in the early 1960’s. Prior to this, commercial filters were imported into New Zealand.

His company, Filtration and Pumping Commercial Ltd, has continued this line of work with David joining the business in the early 1980’s. David continues to manage the business and is delighted that his father’s legacy will live on for many years.

There are very few public swimming pool complexes in New Zealand (and the Pacific Islands) that have not been touched by his innovation and expertise.

Lewis’ greatest loves in life were his wife and family, classic motor cars and his work.

His passing will leave an immeasurable void in many lives. A private ceremony will be held on March 17, and the family appreciates the many messages of condolence and support from New Zealand and around the world.

The great use of life is to spend it for something that will outlast it. - William James, Philosopher
