As you know, due to the change in alert levels, Waves 2021 was unable to go ahead as a face-to-face conference. We had some fantastic speakers lined up to share their knowledge and stories with you at the conference and we don't want you to miss out or have to wait a year for their presentations and insights.
With this in mind, we're bringing you a series of online presentations from the speakers you would have seen at Waves 2021. Over the next few weeks there will be some live panels, giving you the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers and a number of pre-recorded sessions. Then we'll finish everything off with a celebration of the 2021 Aquatics Awards winners!

PANEL: Constant Supervision
In the 2020/2021 we had two fatal drownings and five non-fatal drownings of children under the age of 10. Parental/guardian supervision was a contributing factor in these incidents.
In response, Recreation Aotearoa put out a constant supervision video PSA and circulated it across social media. Many councils and facility operators had their own responses to the incidents, in this webinar Bay Venues Ltd and Hanmer Springs will share the initiatives they have put in place at their facilities. |

PANEL: Unacceptable Customer Behaviour
This presentation and panel will provides an insight into how to address and reduce unacceptable customer behaviour including everything from; front-line team members dealing with situations on-the-spot, to managers dealing with escalated problems, and to increasing wider awareness and support through transparency and reporting.

Promoting Greater Inclusion & Community Cohesion - Kurt Cordice, Enigmatic GlobalWater is everywhere in Aotearoa, and being in, on or around the water could be considered an important part of New Zealand culture. Lack of aquatic confidence, ability and local knowledge can be a barrier to inclusion for many in our diverse communities. This is in addition to the increased risk of drowning and water-related accidents within those communities. The Global Swim Project has been active in Aotearoa, and specifically in the Bay of Plenty since 2018. Its purpose is to promote and facilitate greater inclusion of diverse communities in aquatics and water safety. This talk will explore some of the challenges, results and insights of the project so far. The need for program customisation, industry cooperation and specialised training of professionals within aquatic industries will be discussed. Finally, the role of water safety training in bringing diverse communities closer together in Aotearoa will be explored. |
