We are looking for an experienced Parks & Recreation Manager to lead our team.  If you think this could be you, let's talk.

Our Parks and Recreation team play a vital part in maintaining and enhancing the city's green spaces and recreational facilities.  We see ourselves as kaitiaki of the city's public open space for the next generation and need a dynamic leader to lead the team - this is your chance to come and help guide what Hamilton will look like in the future.

Key skills and experience we are seeking:

  • 5 - 7 years' leadership experience in a relevant field.
  • The ability to demonstrate financial acumen.
  • Significant experience working within Public Open spaces.
  • The ability to build meaningful relationships with key stakeholders including iwi and tangata whenua.
  • Knowledge of Te Reo and how Te Ao Maaori weaves in with the work of Parks and Recreation would be highly advantageous.
  • If you have experience in writing and presenting reports that would be a bonus!
  • The type of leader we are looking for is someone with a collaborative approach as this is how this team works best!  We want someone who is curious, with the courage to challenge the status quo and work with our community to move us into the future.

The person you will be reporting to knows this space well, so will be a great support to you as you get your feet under the desk but is then looking for someone to take the reigns and run with it!

What would a day in this role look like?

In this role the saying is true - no two days will be the same.  Reporting to the Unit Director, you may be preparing and managing budgets, working alongside our community to ensure capital works developments are designed to  meet their needs, or perhaps you will be writing proposals for the Long Term Plan.

What is consistent though is that you will be leading your team of 3 direct reports and the wider team to help guide them and ensure you set them up for the great work they do.
