Kokako Lodge is a modern and progressive 82 bed outdoor education facility based in the Hunua Falls Regional Park, 20 minutes from Papakura, Auckland. We have our own High Ropes, Abseil, Kayaks, Archery and we make very good use of the surrounding bush with Tramps and other activities.
We primarily cater to rangatahi with a particular focus on 10 Auckland AIMHI (Achievement in MultiCultural High Schools). We operate a “Challenge by Choice'' model and focus on developing leadership skills and team-bonding initiatives.
We are seeking a full time Lead Instructor for a permanent and ongoing salaried role. We are flexible to negotiate a full-year or part-year situation. There would be occasional weekend duty required with flexibility in weekly scheduling.
This is a hands-on instructing role with a special focus on observing and training other instructors, so we are looking for someone who can:
- Supervise our instructor team and visiting staff, to ensure a well-run camp.
- Instruct school students and other user groups in outdoor activities that Kokako Lodge runs.
- Provide ongoing training and support for the instructor team to achieve continuous improvement.
- Assist in maintaining our Safety Management Plan and ensuring that we are always "Audit Ready" by ensuring the necessary inspections are completed.
- Assist in facility maintenance work as we take pride in the presentation of our site and preservation of the natural environment.
You will be joining a small FT staff and leading a team of up to 20 contractor instructors coming in on any given occasion. You must have a real passion for EOTC and be a ‘glass half full’ communicator.
Applicants should have Outdoor Experience either personally or as an instructor, and have the ability to work in a small team environment achieving effective rapport with students and visiting teachers and all other clients. Applicants should understand how both personal and group development can be facilitated in the outdoors.
Perhaps you have completed tertiary courses in Outdoor Leadership or Guiding. Further, you may have various certifications in outdoor education or activities. You also may have an awareness of the regulations surrounding Adventure Activities and Safety Auditing. While these latter are not required, we are predominantly looking for someone with experience to “hit the ground running”.
We are offering a competitive salary (to be negotiated) and flexible working conditions.
We are looking for casually-employed and contracting instructors as well. So, if you are interested in keeping yourself ultimately flexible and would rather part-time contract with us, then still send through your information to the contact below. Paid internal training will be provided.
