Recreation Aotearoa has extended its thanks and congratulations to the Minister for the Environment, David Parker, for declining the application to construct a hydro-electric power scheme on the Waitaha River.


Recreation Aotearoa has submitted on the review of the Walking Access Act 2008


Recreation Aotearoa and the New Zealand Alpine Club (NZAC) have both extended their thanks to WorkSafe for producing a policy clarification that will dispel myths and perceived risks around recreational access to private and public land.

We have submitted on the enduring stewardship of Crown Pastoral Land.


The Management Plans for both the Westland Tai Poutini and Aoraki Mount Cook National Parks are currently up for review.

Due to the fact that NZRA has been such a regular submitter to DoC and other Government department consultations, we have been increasingly consulted by various arms of government on the formulation of plans and policies, outside and before the usual public consultation processes.


NZRA contributes regularly during public consultation when DoC is formulating National Park Management Plans and wider Conservation Management Strategies.


This Bill, proposed by an Opposition MP, was drawn from the members ballot and it sought to define 'Community Associations' under the HSW Act as those that employ people up to 100 hours per week in total.


It has long been a source of frustration, time-consumption and cost for many NZRA members that they are required to obtain and pay for costly DoC concessions to provide Outdoor Education opportunities.
