National Park Management Plans - submission deadline extended until February

The Department of Conservation (DoC) have extended the deadline for submissions to the Aoraki Mount Cook and Tai Poutini Westland National Park Management Plans. National Park Management Plans are only ever revised once every generation and fundamentally dictate the balance of Conservation, Recreation and Tourism within each National Parks boundaries, as well as setting the parameters of what will and won't be happening in each National Park.

There are some bold and confronting proposals in the current drafts, including provisions for a 'park and ride' system for Aoraki Mount Cook and a gondola adjacent to Franz Josef Glacier.

NZRA will be making written and verbal submissions. If you would like to input into the NZRA submissions, please e-mail the NZRA Advocacy Manager Sam Newton at sam@nzrecreation.org.nz with the subject line "National Park Management Plans".

We also encourage individual and organisational members of NZRA to make their own submissions here. It can take as little at 15 mins to have your voice and the voice of Outdoor Recreation heard.
