Governments reviews in Education – why it matters to us

The Government is undertaking reviews in the Education system presently. They represent a rare opportunity to enhance and embed the role of Outdoor Education and Outdoor Recreation in the lives of New Zealands young people. Many voices from all corners will be weighing in with often competing perspectives. Our sector needs to ensure that the voice of Outdoor Education is heard alongside the rest.

The NCEA review was launched in May and aims to ensure that the NCEA system remains fit for purpose and continues to support young people to succeed on a diverse range of pathways. The Government has identified six broad opportunities for improving NCEA. There are two online surveys we can all carry out, in a matter of minutes. For those that are inclined, formal submissions can be made here. You may also wish to encourage young (5-20) people you engage with to get involved with the Make Your Mark Competition, which will draw in their ideas and has prizes up for grabs.

We encourage everyone to contribute their thoughts via the various methods available. There won’t be opportunities to influence the education system in NZ like this for many years to come.
