Recreation Conference Moves to February 2022
After evaluating the current COVID-19 situation and having many conversations with our stakeholders, we have made the decision to move November's Recreation Conference to February 2022 in Nelson.
The conference will now be taking place in Nelson at the Rutherford Hotel 16 - 18 February 2022.
Why we are changing the dates...
The ever-changing circumstances of COVID-19 have been challenging for all of us and the emergence of the Delta variant has forced many of us to revaluate our year plans. The abrupt postponement of Waves Conference 2021 was a perfect example of how quickly our situations can change.
We put a call out to our members and partners to give us feedback on alternative Recreation Conference options and the resounding response was that it still needed to go ahead in person. But with the shifting alert levels, we felt like we couldn't give the conference the mana it deserves. We also know how much you, our members, value the networking our conferences provide.
With these factors in mind we felt that moving our dates to 2022 was the most responsible and reasonable decision.
Why we are moving the conference to Nelson...
As many of you know we had initially planned for Recreation Conference to be in Blenheim this year. First, we would just like to acknowledge our local Blenheim members and iwi for their hard work in the conference planning process. While we will still be delivering Recreation Conference in the top of the South, due to venue resourcing issues we have made the decision to move the conference to Nelson.
Awards night and Outdoor Hui...
The Recreation and Outdoor Awards were scheduled to be held with Recreation Conference in November. They too will be shifted with the conference to Nelson in February 2022. This move DOES NOT impact the application deadline for awards. Applications for the Recreation Awards and the Outdoor Awards close this Friday 24 September.
As for the Outdoor Hui planned for Thursday 18 November in Blenheim, it will now be held 17 February 2022 in Nelson. If you have already registered for the Blenheim event, our Outdoors Programme Manager will be in touch and a new registration pathway for the rescheduled event will be available soon.
What now...
We are continuing to work hard on building a fantastic programme for you in February and will be sending out more information about the programme and registration in the coming weeks.
