Education Outdoors NZ (EONZ) $260,000 Tuia ki tawhiti | Collaborative Futures Fund

Education Outdoors NZ (EONZ) is calling for expressions of interest to the new Tuia ki tawhiti | Collaborative Futures Fund. The $260,000 one-off fund is managed and delivered by EONZ on behalf of Sport NZ. The fund is aimed at outdoor education providers, whose main purpose is to provide outdoor education that involves physical activity to tamariki and rangatahi. The funding is intended to support the development of innovative, transformational change projects through collaboration, to improve sustainability and effectiveness of delivery long term.

The fund has been made available through the Sport Recovery Package that was announced in 2020.

EONZ CE, Fiona McDonald sees this as a real opportunity for providers, schools and mana whenua to work together to achieve great results for young New Zealanders.

“Outdoor education provides our tamariki and rangatahi with so many opportunities to learn about themselves, their culture and the environment,” McDonald said.

“Aotearoa is very lucky to be endowed with so many great outdoor opportunities on our doorstep and a range of excellent outdoor education providers,” McDonald said.

“Too often some really engaging programmes fall over once funding dries up, so we are really keen to change that pattern with this fund. As an example, we believe embedding the curriculum in programmes from the outset in partnership with schools will ensure this doesn’t happen,” she said.

The fund is available to help outdoor education providers collaborate with schools and ideally, mana whenua that leads to a sharing of resources, long term partnerships and sustainability.

“We are encouraging all eligible outdoor education providers with a focus on delivering programmes for tamariki and rangatahi, to apply,” McDonald said.
