Waves 2022 is the 60th National Aquatics Conference. To celebrate this anniversary, we've asked some of our past delegates what they’ve loved best about the past sixty years!

Thomas Te Pae – Facility manager Tawa Pool

Q. When and where did you start in Aquatics?

A. I started back in September 9th 2007 my first day on poolside, at Freyberg Pool and Fitnesscentre, Wellington City Council, Wellington.

Q. When did you attend your first aquatics conference?

A. I attend in 2016 the Wellington conference, was my first experience as a Aquatics Team Leader.

Q. Most influential conference speaker/presentation?

A. I really enjoyed them all , but Rob Hewitt survival story was next level in Christchurch.

Q. Most memorable aquatics conference moment?

I’ve enjoyed bringing a lifeguard team to compete almost every year at the lifeguard games, and really enjoy Awards Ceremonies to recognise all the hard work the staff do on a day to day for their community.
