Every month we will introduce you to members from the different industries within the recreation sector. This month we talked with Lynden Noakes from Lido Aquatic Centre in Palmerston North....
Your role... Facility Manager at Lido Aquatic Centre (CLM) in Palmerston North
What you love most about the sector... I love the fact that this sector gives people so much enjoyment, whether it is a leisurely swim in the lane pool or a walk in the park to rejuvenate. It's a sector that I think is so important to a person's overall physical and emotional health .
Why you joined Recreation Aotearoa... I became involved with Recreation Aotearoa because of the great people. There are some great leaders and people that are so passionate about recreation in this country and this organisation is at the forefront. Who wouldn't want to be part of such a great organisation?
Favourite part about being a member... The best part is the great networking with like-minded people. As I have been in the industry for just over 20 years, I have watched many people grow into great leaders and it inspires me to carry on being a part of it!
One thing you've learned in the last month... The thing I have learned the most over the last little while is the amount of technology that is out there to make our lives easier. Due to the Covid-19 lockdown we were forced to navigate life in a way we never have before, and I think this has opened our eyes to how we can do our jobs more efficiently. Working from home is just one example and we can minimize vehicle use and have a better effect on the environment.
Your hopes for our industry... My hopes for the industry would be that we keep attracting innovative people that have a passion for the recreation sector in New Zealand.
