Member Spotlight #3: Lindsay Weaver

We have an excellent base of dedicated members who have really cool jobs! To help promote our membership base and give you a little insight into some of the cool people we work with, we've developed this quick-fire question series. Every month we will introduce you to members from the different industries within the recreation sector. This month we talked with Lindsay Weaver from Gisborne District Council....

Your role... Landscape and Community Services Officer at Gisborne District Council

What you love most about the sector... I am a 'Parkie' at heart and always have been - from being on work experience at the Notts County Council landscape department when I was 15. It's all I have ever known for the last 20+ years; creating safe, healthy, livable spaces for our residents and visitors to enjoy.

Why you joined Recreation Aotearoa... I became involved with Recreation Aotearoa when I first arrived in New Zealand from the United Kingdom, so I could continue on with my Green Flag Award judging. I love judging and love meeting passionate entrants and fellow judges. I learn and expand my knowledge every time I judge.

Favourite part about being a member... It's being able to draw on the vast amount of industry-wide knowledge that members have. It's also being part of the Recreation Aotearoa family, who may only come together once or twice a year at conferences, but those bonds of friendship and passion for what we do makes me so proud.

One thing you've learned in the last month... That I need to me more mindful and put my wellbeing as a priority too.

Your hopes for our industry... That it continues to go from strength to strength and that the 15 year olds of today are inspired to join the industry just as I was back in 1994. Turn your passion into your career.
