Green Flag Award Spotlight: Henley Lake, Masteron

Henley Lake is at the centre of a network of flat tracks winding through 43 hectares of wetlands and native plantings in Masterton. They are a first time Community Green Flag Award® winner and they're pretty chuffed. We had a quick chat with the management to find out a little more about their space.

Describe your park in three words... Fabulous wilderness park

How does it feel to be a Green Flag Award® winning park... We are thrilled. The Henley Trust, our contractor Recreational Services, and Masterton District Council are all delighted that Henley Lake has achieved this international community award. We know it is a wonderful space, and believe the shared vision of those involved in managing Henley Lake really exemplifies what the community award is all about.

Why should people visit your park... We have something for everyone, providing spaces for active and passive recreation, wildlife and community events. Centred around a lake and a parkland of wetlands and trees.

One thing people might not know about Henley Lake... A group of like-minded people came together in the 1960s, purchased land, developed the park, and in 1992 gifted this fabulous open space to council for the benefit of community.
