Would you like to be a key player in the future provision of our City's parks and recreation facilities?

We are seeking a motivated individual with lots of initiative to lead a team that plans and delivers parks and recreation opportunities that are sustainable, community focused and will enhance the value of parks throughout Christchurch.

With over a thousand unique parks dotted throughout the city, your experience in parks and recreation combined with your leadership and team management ability, knowledge of legislation and planning processes will see you anticipating the requirements of customers and communities and delivering plans to enhance a wide variety of sports grounds, play and recreation facilities, walkways and other park assets.

Working together with other teams, the Parks and Recreation Planning Team lead the planning of diverse parks and outdoor recreation opportunities for the citizens and visitors of Christchurch. They have responsibility to ensure that these spaces are sustainable, meet community needs and outcomes, and enhance the key values of the City's parks.

Your role is to provide leadership and day to day management of this team. You'll have variety in your day-to-day activities working alongside community stakeholders, leading project teams and contributing to the forward planning for the Council's capital programme. As an enthusiastic team player, you'll provide technical and professional advice to other Parks staff and Council units as well as external stakeholders.

Your planning and management experience will enable you to hit the ground running, and you'll utilise your relationship-building skills to develop partnerships with stakeholders, as well as lead and empower your team to achieve.

Your ability to think strategically and look at the bigger picture means that you are continually looking at how parks can achieve community outcomes within relevant legislative requirements, Council strategies and policies, and to meet growth requirements sustainably.

There will be opportunities to up skill both in-house and with involvement in industry led training for you to keep up to date and research relevant national and international trends.
