Here at the Christchurch City Council our work is in the City that surrounds us. We have a diverse range of technical specialists who help keep our beautiful city running and are responsible for our most treasured assets. Our Regional Parks team manages natural and developed open space in and around Christchurch and Banks Peninsula primarily for biodiversity conservation, amenity protection and recreation facilitation outcomes and they are now looking for two Regional Park Ranger - Project Managers.

As a Regional Park Ranger you will manage and enhance regional parks amenity and recreational landscapes and assets and associated projects (including staff resources and budgets) to protect and develop regional parks and their facilities. One vacancy is based on the Port Hills and across the Banks Peninsula with a focus on amenity facility management and high profile public spaces. The other is based at Bottle Lake Forest Park, involved with recreation and biodiversity projects in parks in the northern part of the City. A typical day in the life will involve a mix of field and office work where you'll manage and develop allocated parks and facilities and liaise with community groups and volunteers. A substantial annual maintenance and development programme is expected to be delivered successfully. You'll be expected to use a range of light equipment and tools so you must be comfortable with the practical elements of this role. You'll be working within our Council systems including all financial, reporting and asset management systems. You'll be engaging with a wide and diverse community as well as key stakeholders including special interest partnership groups. You'll facilitate community participation and environmental education groups as well as advocate for biodiversity protection and appropriate use of recreation facilities.

These are roles with a good mix of project work and hands on practical field elements. You'll be confident in your ability to communicate and take action where required whilst also being at the forefront of projects. Being personable and approachable will see you easily make long standing relationships within key stakeholders and the wider community.
