Swimming is an important recreation activity for many New Zealanders, and ensuring people are safe and confident in the water is a key focus for Hamilton Pools.

There are vacancies available for a Pool Lifeguard and a Senior Lifeguard

To be a lifeguard with us you will need to be able to demonstrate the following:

- Hold a current Pool or Beach Lifeguard qualification and a first aid certificate or,

- Have life guarding experience or,

- Have a can-do attitude to ensure you are able to always deliver excellent customer service

- Be a team player, someone who can roll-up their sleeves and make things happen

You'll need to be available to work as rostered across Monday to Sunday at either Waterworld or Gallaghers Aquatic Centre in Hamilton.

As a Senior Lifeguard, you have all of the above, including being responsible for providing leadership to the lifeguard team, support the team leader and aquatic supervision to visitors enjoying the pools.

In this role, you will actively supervise the aquatic activities of customers to promote pool safety and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for patrons using the aquatics facilities. This will be done through prevention, response and providing outstanding customer service. You'll also be involved in ensuring the facility is kept to a high level of cleanliness as well as providing excellent customer service.

What happens next?

If you are short-listed we will contact you to arrange a practical assessment where you will be required to:

Swim 200m under 6 minutes

Complete a depth test - swim to the bottom of the dive pool (4.6m) and collect an object

Candidates who successfully pass the practical test will be invited to a formal interview with our hiring team.

We have a permanent role available, working 40 hours per week as rostered Monday to Sunday. The recruiting range for this role starts at $20.00 per hour and could be negotiated for the right candidate as we develop the successful candidate with our in-house training and development.

This role is covered by the Children's Act 2014, which means that shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo all safety checking requirements under the Act before commencing employment, as well as during employment.
