Active Wellbeing: Education Lead

Sport Waikato - Taakaro-ora - Active Wellbeing: Education Lead

Fulltime permanent (as part of a three-year expansion of the Sport NZ initiative, Play.sport)

Are you passionate about the importance health and physical education plays in the wellbeing/hauora of our young people? Are you an experienced teacher who makes learner development a key priority regardless of subject, topic or context?

Sport Waikato is leading an exciting new initiative known as Taakaro-ora - Active Wellbeing within the schools of Te Pae Here Kaahui Ako (North East Hamilton Community of Learning) and we are seeking an experienced, teacher-trained leader who is not afraid to challenge the system; someone who can build strong relationships which can drive change.

Taakaro-ora - Active Wellbeing aims to build a sustainable system where children and young people will have quality, fun, challenging and inspiring physical activity, sport and health and physical education experiences that support them to be active, engaged, learning and succeeding.

Based in Hamilton, the Education Lead will be part of a small and dedicated team who will work to support and leverage our already successful Sport Waikato programme, Project Energize.

The key purpose of this role is to provide curriculum support within the provision of health and physical education. The Education Lead will support and help to build teacher confidence, challenge current thinking and practice and encourage teachers to place equal importance on the four dimensions of Mason Durie's Te Whare Tapa Wha model in order to drive greater wellbeing/hauora outcomes for young people.

The successful applicant will be a fantastic team player with knowledge of the health and physical education curriculum, and practical delivery experience of this curriculum within a primary/intermediate setting. Experience in leading change is an advantage and the ability to establish key relationships within each school including senior leadership and boards of trustees is an important part of this role.

A position description and online application form is available on our website www.sportwaikato.org.nz/jobs. Any queries can be directed to Claire Rusk via email clairer@sportwaikato.org.nz phone, 0274281840.

Note: successful applicants will be required to be Police vetted. Sport Waikato is committed to Child Protection and the safeguarding of children and young people, and it is our expectation that all staff will operate in a way that reflects this intent.

Sport Waikato is a Charitable Trust with the vision "Everyone out there and active."
