Recreate locally: find your niche, take your bubble-buddies or go alone, use what's to hand, experience the immediate. This has been the message to our communities during Levels 4 and now during Level 3 of the Lockdown.

While this period has posed big challenges, there have been upsides. We used the opportunity to re-define how we recreate - taking to the streets, local parks, trails, cycleways and paths; rivers, streams and waterways.

In this issue of Insights, we look at how streets without traffic can be enlivened, promote sociability and offer safe, local play spaces for children and adults. We also celebrate the power of natural environments, and what the National Parks City movement has to say about the benefits of nature within cities.
