New Zealand Parks Awards


The New Zealand Parks Awards recognise excellence, innovation, effectiveness and outstanding spaces and places that support activity within the recreation sector.

Award Categories

  • Healthy Park Award - Urban parks, town squares, community hubs, regional, local and forestry parks
  • Active Park/Sports Ground Award - Active adventure park and/or sports park
  • Playground Award - Any playground type
  • Parks Person of the Year - Works in a professional capacity in parks or open spaces
The 2021 New Zealand Parks Awards were presented at the Green Pavlova Awards Dinner in Rotorua on 27 May 2021. The winners were:
  • Auckland Botanic Gardens, Auckland Council - Healthy Park Award
  • Plimmerton Domain Dog Recreation Area (Te Papa Tākaro Kurī o Te Papa Rēhia o Taupō), Porirua City Council - Active Park Award
  • Kopupaka Reserve, Auckland Council - Playground of the Year
  • Glenn Browne, Auckland Council - Parks Person of the Year
  • Thames Coromandel District Council - Parks Week Marketing Award

  • Active Park of the Year - Flaxmere Park
  • Healthy Park of the Year - Centennial Park
  • Parks Week Marketing Award - Gisborne District Council

  • Active Park of the Year - Foxton Beach Pump Track
  • Healthy Park of the Year - Ohakune Carrot Adventure Park
  • Green Flag Park of the Year - TECT All Terrain Adventure Park (Bay of Plenty)
  • Parks Week Marketing Award - Invercargill City Council
