Thinking Recreation! 2011 in Nelson

NZRA held its annual Thinking Recreation! conference in Nelson with a stimulating programme of speakers and workshops focussing on the topic of Sustainability: Energy, Water, Collaboration.

Presenters looked at how collaboration and wise use of water and energy all lead to more sustainable recreation and well-being in the community. Recreation planners from around the country discussed and learnt what is working, what to avoid, and how to be future-looking as they plan, guide decision-making and develop efficiencies around recreation and sport services and facilities.

The Hon Nick Smith, Minister for the Environment, opened the third day of the conference with a talk that touched on water for recreation, freedom camping and more. Other highlights of the three-day seminar included a look at the early learnings from the Auckland amalgamation, as well as its future opportunities.  SPARC outlined its Plan for Recreation with a keynote speech as well as a workshop on day three.

2011 Thinking Recreation presentations are available to members by logging in using the Member Login at the top right of the website.
